Bowman Courier Delivers!

We know: it’s been a long time coming.  

We’ve fielded many questions–all variations of: “When will the Bowman newspaper be published?”  And we’ve answered them with the same reply and determination: “Soon!”

Rest assured, we’ve been working on this journalistic enterprise since last August.  For months, we’ve picked our staff, changed it, and finalized it; we’ve jiggered and re-jiggered our format, imagined our online presence, and finalized our look; we’ve come up with entertaining stories, solicited material from our community, and went out on the field for write-ups.  

We know everything must be perfect or near perfect for us to publish a single word.  We’ve therefore squabbled about color schemes, fonts and formats.  We’ve checked our sources; we’ve double-backed to ascertain minute facts; we’ve relentlessly made sure everyone’s name is spelled right.

No surprise: we’ve also spent some time deciding on what to call ourselves.  Inevitably, we dabbled on all sorts of melittology (the science of bees) and subjected it to unspeakable puns.  Eventually, we settled on Bowman Courier because it seemed to have some gravitas and the ring of a worthwhile endeavor.

Of course, we are really meant to be couriers, after all: messengers and agents to broadcast, disseminate, and communicate everything that makes Bowman School unique.  In this and future issues, we will highlight the folks that make Bowman work, the students with their talents and insights, and the families from disparate backgrounds and concerns.  

So look out for our recurring features: the graphic interviews (where students, teachers and staff draw their responses), the Neighborhood Watch (we visit local businesses and review them), BioDiversity (we plumb the lives of Bowman community members we think we know), and assorted art reviews.  

We will also continue to write about current events–within Bowman and outside it–and showcase as many points of view and stories about our vibrant, diverse home away from home.
